Why Breastfeeding Hydration?
It's Science!
1. You lose 700+ mL of water a day through milk. Breast milk is mostly water, and it comes straight out of you at every feed.
2. Letdown thirst is real. The oxytocin that triggers your letdown also makes you thirsty, because your body knows it's about to lose fluid.
3. Your body refills baby first and drains you. That's why you drink all day and still feel like a husk.
4. Plain water flushes right through. Without electrolytes, you pee it back out before it hydrates you.
5. Dehydration drives the fog and aches. The headaches, cramps, and depletion all get worse when you're running dry.
